The Town of English, Indiana is located in the county seat of Sterling Township in Crawford Count. The population is approximately 700 making it one of the smallest county seats in Indiana. In 1829, the town was originally named Hartford. In 1864, the town was renamed after William Hayden English who was an Indiana politician.
