Forest, Indiana is a small unincorporated town in Forest Township in Clinton County, Indiana. It was in September 1, 1874 that the town was first platted by Henry Y. Morrison for the purpose of serving as a station along the Frankfurt and Kokomo Railroad, which would later be known as Clover Leaf Railroad. The place was so called because the site was forested and the first railroad tickets were oak stumps used as ticket counters. The first postmaster of the town was C.G.R. Sims. It is interesting to note that the residents of the town supported the Temperance Movement. In 1886, when a saloon owner went on to build his establishment despite of the citizenry’s protests, it was blown up with dynamite and forced him to seek another location. In 1913, in spite of the town’s low population, there were a number of lodges and fraternal organizations including the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs, Knights of Pythias, Masons, Improved Order of Red Men and modern Woodmen of America.
